Originally from Minnesota, Daniel is a Cellist and Arts Manager studying at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music. Daniel’s work aims to push the perception of “classical performance” and support contemporary artists in the ever-changing world of contemporary music.
Daniel’s musical training started with renowned cellist and Alexander teacher Käthe Jarka and has led him to Oberlin, where he currently studies with Dmitry Kouzov. Also at Oberlin, Daniel has developed his own Major in Arts Administration & Concert Design and is the Founder of The Musikos Collective, a student-led presenting organization working to expand Oberlin’s involvement in its larger community.
Throughout his training, Daniel has traveled to New York, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, and Český Krumlov and has been a two-time prizewinner at the SPCO Chamber Music Competition. Recent tours have included an East Coast tour with The Ἔrιs Quartet and a tour to Carnegie Hall with Oberlin Orchestra, performing for the United Nations General Conference.
Through the advocacy of Daniel’s mentors, especially Dana Jessen, Rhonda Rider, and Ross Karre, Daniel quickly realized his love of new music. Daniel collaborates frequently with composers at Oberlin, NEC, The Juilliard School, BOCO, Bard Conservatory, and SFCM and has developed classes centered around Programming and Commissioning through the Pedagogy, Advocacy, and Community Engagement department at Oberlin. Daniel has premiered works by Joan Tower, Ben Nubotu, Nicole Lizée, and Courtney Brian and has had the pleasure of working alongside Eighth Blackbird, Wendy Eisenberg, and Viet Cuong in his recent performances.
While performance has given Daniel his passion for music, he also is excited to be pursuing a career in Arts Administration. During his time with the International Cello Institute, he developed "IConnect," an educational program for young cellists. IConnect is now running in person for its 3rd Summer in Davenport, IA. Recently, Daniel has worked alongside The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, helping them develop multiple concerts at Carnegie Hall and with The Meadowmount School of Music, where he managed over 40 Concerts featuring 200 student performers. Currently, Daniel is working with The Pink Noise Agency in Artist Management and Booking and is the Executive Director of The Musikos Collective, a student-led presenting organization based in Oberlin, OH.
In Ohio, Daniel is an assistant to the Director of the Oberlin Community Music School and is the Student Assistant and Peer Advisor for the Oberlin Professional Development Department. He is pursuing a BM in Cello Performance with Dmitry Kouzov and a BA with an Individual Major in Arts Administration and Concert Design.
