Chicago based soprano Julia Frodyma is a recent MM graduate of Northwestern University's Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music. Praised for her "clear timbre," Frodyma's recent engagements include the role of Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea,) Despina (Cosi fan Tutte) and Valencienne (The Merry Widow) with Northwestern Opera Theatre. Frodyma maintains a strong affinity for chamber music; this past season, she has appeared with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and sings regularly with Music of the Baroque Chorus in Chicago.
Frodyma's work includes performances in the Showcase Series at the Canadian Opera Company, and fellowships with Tafelmusik in her native Toronto, as well as summer seasons with the Académie Orford Musique, and SongFest. The Polish-Canadian’s previous roles also include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro,) and First Lady (Die Zauberflöte.) Frodyma has presented recitals of both solo and choral repertoire in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and she actively tours and gives workshops with the Canadian Chamber Choir. In November, she will perform Carmina Burana as part of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus.
Frodyma received a Bachelor’s Degree (2017) and an Advanced Certificate in Performance (2018) in Voice from the University of Toronto. She also holds an ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music (2021.)
