LadyZen is a Philadelphia-based cellist, composer and music teacher. Born in New Jersey, she started playing cello at the age of 8. Throughout high school, LadyZen competed for (& was accepted into) several prestigious youth orchestras, earning music scholarships from several organizations, including the New York Philharmonic. By 18, she was already teaching music and working as a professional cellist when she accepted a college scholarship to study with world-renowned cellist Zara Nelsova at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. In college, LadyZen began performing as a “rock” cellist with a local songwriter; an experience so rewarding that she left the rigid music school curriculum to focus on non-classical music styles and improvisation. since then, she worked as a freelance artist, recording and performing with various artists in the genres of Rock, R&B, Pop, and Jazz, earning a solid reputation as a talented and versatile cellist.
