Nicoletta Moss is a Greek-American conductor known both on and off the podium for their passionate presence, commitment to inclusivity, and support of lifelong musicianship. Currently, Nicoletta is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kentucky, working closely with the UK Symphony Orchestra, UK Philharmonia, and UK Opera Theatre.
Previously, Nicoletta held various roles in the Greater Washington, D.C. Area, including music director of the Takoma Mandoleers mandolin-guitar orchestra, music faculty at Levine Music at The Music Center at Strathmore, and string teaching artist in the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra's El Sistema-inspired Sympatico program. During the 2021-2022 season, Nicoletta was an assistant conductor for the Greensboro Symphony, awarded 2nd place winner in The American Prize's competition, and made a European debut with the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra in Greece.
With a mission to foster lifelong learning, Nicoletta connects with musicians of all ages, levels, and backgrounds. At the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Nicoletta taught undergraduate and graduate students in the Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia, Casella Sinfonietta, graduate conducting lab, and ad-hoc contemporary ensembles. From 2015 to 2018, Nicoletta was the music director of the James Madison University Club Orchestra, a campus orchestra. During this tenure, Nicoletta led the orchestra through a period of substantial growth, expanding membership from 11 to 50+ members who represented over 20 different academic majors. Prior engagements include positions with the Greensboro Symphony OrKIDStra Program, Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program, UNCG Summer Music Camp, JMU Spring String Thing, Music Orchard, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Nicoletta earned a Master of Music degree in conducting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Bachelor of Music degree in music education at James Madison University. Nicoletta has been awarded JMU's Early Career Music Educator Award, Joy Hollar Costello Endowed Scholarship for Music Education, and School of Music Scholarship. Nicoletta's conducting mentors include Kevin Geraldi, Rebecca MacLeod, Robert McCashin, and Stephen Bolstad. Nicoletta has attended workshops and competitions internationally, including Cascade Conducting Orchestral Masterclass, International Conducting Institute, Athens International Conducting Masterclass and Competition, Wintergreen Music Festival, studying with Sarah Ioannides, Michalis Economou, Erin Freeman, Lawrence Golan, Gary Lewis, and Victor Yampolsky. Nicoletta is a founding board member of the National Association of Medical Orchestras and member of the American String Teachers Association, College Orchestra Directors Association, and Classical Mandolin Society of America. Nicoletta enjoys drinking coffee/tea, cooking, being outdoors, and raising Clover (mini-goldendoodle) with their partner.
