Quincy has a wide variety of experience that ranges from performing as a soloist to chamber groups and cultural music groups. As an educator, Quincy’s pedagogy revolves around the idea of critical thinking and personal examination of the mind and body. Recently, Quincy has been developing his new ensemble, Waveform Collective, and bringing accessible music to his community.

Biography

Quincy Doenges

Quincy Doenges is an award-winning percussionist and educator that is currently based in Waco, Texas. Quincy has a wide variety of experience that ranges from performing as a soloist, as well as performing in chamber groups, orchestras, jazz bands, and cultural music groups. Quincy is also a co-founder of the Waveform Collective; an innovative new music ensemble serving to provide accessible music to their community. As an educator, Quincy’s pedagogy revolves around the idea of critical thinking and personal examination of the mind and body. Since 2021, Quincy has been a percussion technician and educator with the University High School Trojan Band in Waco, Texas. Beginning in 2017, he was the percussion instructor of the New Horizons Band, hosted at Western University. More notably, Quincy was a staff member of the Western University’s Marching Band, the Western Mustang Band. In his summer months, Quincy enjoys teaching at various high school band camps in the Waco and West Michigan areas. In 2018, Quincy was the winner of the first annual Western University Winds, Brass, and Percussion Concerto Competition where he later performed with the University’s Wind Ensemble conducted by Dr. Colleen Richardson. Quincy has been a featured soloist at the Tulip Time Salute Concert in Holland, Michigan, including various other collage concerts. Notably, he has also been a selected nominee for the MSBOA Michigan Youth Arts Festival. in 2016. In 2019, Quincy was a finalist in the Maritsa Brooks Concerto Competition, as well as the London Music Scholarship Foundation Competition. In 2019, Quincy joined the Light of East Ensemble as a percussionist where he had the opportunity to perform across Ontario. Quincy and the LoEE have appeared and performed at events such as TD Sunfest, Guelph and District Multicultural, and CJAM 99.1 Windsor Radio. The LoEE’s repertoire is comprised of traditional, folk, and classical middle eastern music. Quincy is originally from Holland, Michigan and he holds a degree in Music Education from Western University, in London, Ontario, Canada. Quincy’s other hobbies include cooking, riding his longboard, and playing with his cat, Lewie. Currently, Quincy is a Graduate Assistant at Baylor University studying for his Master’s of Music Performance under the guidance of Dr. Todd Meehan and Arlo Shultis. Quincy’s previous mentors include Dr. Jill Ball, Sue Gainforth, Eric Peterson, and Dr. Joe Moscheck.
