Biography

Alba Layana Izurieta

Alba Layana Izurieta is a violin student from Ecuador who was born and raised in a multigenerational musical household. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Strings Performance at Northwestern University under Desiree Ruhstrat, and graduated from Louisiana State University under Espen Lilleslåtten with a Bachelor of Music. 

In 2023, Alba performed as Concertmaster of the recording ensemble in the independent film “Down Below” by Observatory Media. In 2021 she made her first appearance in American television performing as a guest artist in the Louisiana Public Broadcasting's educational puppet show Ziggy’s Arts Adventures. In the same year, she taught group lessons at Kid's Orchestra in Louisiana. 

Moreover, Alba toured as a member of the Orchestra of the Americas in the Southern Cone Tour and the Mexico Crescendo Tour, where she got featured in Mexican television TVeo Canal Regional and TV Guanajuato Canal 8. Additionally, Layana has performed as a soloist with Orquesta Sinfónica de Guayaquil throughout 2012-19., where she obtained a position as an section violinist in 2017 through 2018. 

Alba taught individual and group lessons in Ecuador. To honor the musical legacy of her cultural heritage, she performed Ecuadorian, Latin American, and other underrepresented music with her mother and sister on the piano in several music venues in Ecuador.
