Biography

Alex Delgado

Growing up listening to whatever dad was playing in the garage (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Talking Heads, etc.) or whatever was on mom's iPod (The B52s, Feist, Regina Spektor, etc.), Mezzo soprano Alex Delgado never had opera on their radar until about 18 years old. Alex Delgado began piano lessons at age 7, where they learned to read music and play “Ob La Di Ob La Da”. At age 12, Alex joined their middle school choir which sparked their interest in singing and introduced them to classical music.

While Alex continued choir throughout high school, they contributed keyboard and vocals to rock cover band No Surrender for 4 years, performing at Angel Stadium, NAMM, opening for Mike Peters, and playing for KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Just before graduating high school, Alex discovered a large interest in opera and decided to pursue a degree in Vocal Performance at San Jose State University studying with Jacque Wilson Scharlach.

In their time at San Jose State, Alex has performed in Sondheim’s Into the Woods (Cinderella), Rodriquez’s La Curandera (Dionisia), and Brecht’s Threepenny Opera (Lucy Brown), as well as scenes from Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Romeo), Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Cherubino), and Mozart’s The Magic Flute (3rd Lady). In addition to opera, they have also had the honor of singing back up for Josh Groban in 2019 and 2022, and backing choir for Andrea Bocelli in 2022.

Most recently, Alex enjoyed singing the title role of Hansel in Humperdink’s opera Hansel & Gretel in Narni, Italy with the Narnia Vocal Arts Program under the direction of Andrea DelGiudice. While in the Narnia Vocal Arts Program, Alex premiered a new piece written by composer Gail Harris, “Happily Ever After Takes A lot of Work”.

When Alex is not performing, they teach private voice lessons independently and at Bytes & Notes in San Jose, CA. Alex’s excitement and love for music comes from the passionate music teachers they had growing up and they hope to inspire students in the same way.
