Biography

An Hoang

An Hoang was instinctively drawn into the piano and started playing at the age of 6. She attended the Saigon Conservatory from 2010 until 2014 - when her family moved to the United States- then continued her studies with Molly Nguyen. Currently, she is under the guidance of Professor Bernadene Blaha from the Thornton School of Music, at the University of Southern California. An has maintained an active performance schedule as a soloist, chamber, and collaborative pianist over the past decade. She has won numerous awards and honors, including top prizes at the Lansum International Music Festival, the Arte-E International Competition, the United States International Duo Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Southwest Youth Music Festival, MTAC Concerto Competition, and the United States Open Music Competition. In the past years, she has been featured as concerto soloist with the Orange County Symphony, and as a collaborative pianist with violinist Drew Tretick at the Richard Nixon Library. Most recently, she was chosen as the second-time recipient of the Keyboard Ensemble Award at USC for the 2022-2023 school year.

An was invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall, New York, and Royal Albert Hall, London in 2017 after receiving top prizes at the American Protege Concerto Competition and the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition. The
Carmel Klavier International Competition, similarly, invited her to be a part of the Summer Music Academy in
Kyiv, Ukraine after her Grand Prize performance of the Liszt Concerto No.1. In 2019, An was selected to
participate in the American Liszt Society Annual Festival that took place in Arizona. She also has participated
in masterclasses with Nina Scolnik, Eugene Alcalay, Olga Kern, Craig Sheppard and Robin McCabe.

As an active accompanist for local competitions and festivals, An found her passion in working and helping
younger musicians. She also enjoys collaborating with her colleagues at Thornton in her chamber group. Last
year, they had a chance to perform Brahms Trio in E♭ major, Op. 40 at the Strings Department
Chamber Festival. Outside of her music studies, An loves to spend time with her family and friends, draw,
cook, and develop new recipes.
