Biography

Anna Kelly

Praised for her "divine" (Palm Beach Post),  “deliciously smooth and clear mezzo-soprano" (Parterre) with an "impressive upper range” (Berkshire Eagle), Anna Kelly is a second year member of the Artist Diploma Program in Opera Studies at the Juilliard School, where she is a recipient of the Tatiana Troyanos and Alice Tully Scholarships.

Ms. Kelly's 2025 season opened with a role debut as Mère Marie in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites under the baton of Matthew Aucoin at the Juilliard School. Ms. Kelly then joined the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra to perform excerpts of Octavian from Der Rosenkavelier and Komponist from Ariadne auf Naxos in concert. In summer 2025, she was part of the Apprentice Artist Program at Santa Fe Opera, covering Waltraute in Die Walküre and Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro. ​In fall 2025, she will debut as Hänsel in Juilliard Opera’s Hänsel und Gretel, and as the alto soloist in Händel’s Messiah with the Phoenix Symphony. In spring 2026, she makes her debut as the alto soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the Glacier Symphony.

In 2024, Ms. Kelly made multiple role debuts: as Dorabella in Così fan tutte with Opera Saratoga, and as Federica in Luisa Miller with Sarasota Opera, where she also covered the title role in Carmen.​ In past seasons, Ms. Kelly was an apprentice artist with Wolf Trap and Palm Beach Operas, and appeared in concert and recital with the Metropolitan Club of Washington DC, the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and the Washington Opera Society. 

A successful vocal competitor, Ms. Kelly recently performed  with the Irish National Symphony as the 2nd Place & Audience Choice award winner of the 2025 Veronica Dunne International Vocal Competition. She also appeared as a semifinalist in both the Metropolitan Opera's 2022 Laffont Competition, and in the 2024 Houston Grand Opera's Eleanor McCollum Competition. 

Additional honors include 1st place wins in the 2023 James Toland Vocal Competition, 2024 National Opera Association’s Carolyn Bailey Argento Competition, and the Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition (2022 junior division and 2024 senior division). Further competition highlights include awards from the Opera Index Competition, the Gerda Lissner Foundation, and the Loren L. Zachary Competition.​

​Ms. Kelly is a graduate of Yale University's School of Music, and has trained with esteemed young artist programs such as the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program, the Houston Grand Opera Young Artists’ Vocal Academy, Palm Beach Opera's Apprentice Program, and in the studio artist program at Wolf Trap Opera.
