Biography

Chris Tam

Chris Tam is a trombonist from Chicago, Illinois and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Bass Trombone Performance at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance, under the direction of David Jackson and Dennis Wilson. He currently performs with the University of Michigan Symphony Band as well as the University Jazz Trombone Choir. Chris has also performed with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra and University Opera. He has worked with renowned artists such as Weston Sprott, Thomas Leyendecker, Charlie Vernon, George Curran, Ilan Morgenstern, and Brian Hecht. Chris was named a finalist for the International Trombone Association’s 2022 George Roberts Bass Trombone Competition. Chris was the Bass Trombonist of the 2020 NYO2 Orchestra. Chris and his former trombone quartet were the 2019 Fischoff Competition Junior Wind Division Bronze Medalists, and are two-time winners of the American Brass Quintet Prize (2019 & 2020).
