Biography

(She/Her) Emily Gallagher is a soprano who loves being both onstage and behind the curtain. She is a 2022-23 Fulbright Grantee to Austria where she is working with the company TaleSpin—Musical Tales for Big and Small to produce a children’s opera and picture book during her grant period. Onstage, she has most recently been seen as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with the Pittsburgh Savoyards and as Soprano 1 in Missy Mazzoli’s Songs from the Uproar at the August Wilson Center.

Biography

Emily Gallagher

Emily Gallagher is a soprano who loves being both onstage and behind the curtain. She is a 2022-23 Fulbright Grantee to Austria where she is working with the multi-media production company TaleSpin—Musical Tales for Big and Small to produce an original children’s opera and picture book during her grant period. Onstage, she has most recently been seen as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with the Pittsburgh Savoyards and as Soprano 1 in Missy Mazzoli’s Songs from the Uproar at the August Wilson Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Abroad, she has been seen in roles of Nada in Ana Sokolović’s Svada at the National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade and as Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica at the KammerOper in Vienna, Austria. Other credits include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto at Carnegie Mellon University, Adele (cover) in Die Fledermaus with the Vienna Summer Music Festival, and Maguelone/La Fée in Cendrillon with Pittsburgh Festival Opera.

Emily is passionate about performing contemporary music, and has been a part of multiple world premieres, including Mary in The School of Marital Happiness with the Vienna Summer Music Festival, Mother in Starsong, part of the Compōs-it Opera Festival, Diana in Languagemachine with Pittsburgh Co-Opera, Dater #22 in the Brevard Music Center’s Zoom Speed Dating Tonight!, and Soprano in Caleb Glickman’s My Neighbor Figaro, for which she also wrote the libretto. This opera was also presented on Opera Vision in August 2020 as part of a series of mini-operas written, produced, and performed during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Offstage, Emily is passionate about technical theater and music education. She has experience as a stage manager with Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in The Park, The Savannah Voice Festival, and Pittsburgh Festival Opera. She has also music and stage directed several children’s theater productions including Tuck Everlasting, Annie Kids, Seussical Kids, and Willy Wonka Kids.

Emily is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Sigma Iota honor societies and a member of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, the international women's music fraternity. She is a board member of Steel City Opera and is a member of Hello Neighbor’s Young Professionals Board, a resettlement and support organization for refugees and immigrants in Pittsburgh.

She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance.
