Bass, Errol-Wesley Shaw originally hails from the city of Miami, FL, and is currently based in Denver, CO.
2024/2025 season highlights include his Opera Fort Collins debut singing The Notary in
Gaetano Donizetti’s comedy, Don Pasquale, as well as covering the title role. Shaw also
performed the role of King Balthazar in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl And The Night Visitors for
Central City Opera’s winter production. Last fall, Shaw joined CCO as a touring artist bringing
opera outreach to different venues across Colorado, including a solo recital for Pike’s Peak
Opera League’s “Music on the Rocks” series entitled Opera Goes To Broadway. Shaw, who has a
Masters in Music performance from DePaul University(2024), has performed with Central City
Opera the past two summers as an apprentice artist. This past year, Shaw has also been featured
as a performer and apprentice artist for Sarasota Opera. In recent seasons, Shaw was thrilled to
make his Central City Opera debut as Le Duc in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and as the First
Stagehand/Nathaniel in Cole Porter’s Kiss me, Kate.
In recent years, Shaw has been seen as the title character in Verdi’s Falstaff as well as singing
the role of Giove in Francesco Cavalli’s La Calisto. Both were produced by DePaul University
Opera Theater under the direction of Harry Silverstein. Recent concert engagements include the
bass soloist in a concert themed Italian Baroque Discoveries with DePaul Community Chorus,
and as the bass soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with DePaul Symphony Orchestra and combined
choirs. Past Opera performances have featured Shaw as Frére Laurent in Gounod’s Roméo et
Juliette, Frank in Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, Sergeant of Police in Gilbert and Sullivan’s
Pirates of Penzance, and Melisso in Handel’s Alcina. His undergraduate studies took place at
Stetson University in DeLand, FL, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree, with an
additional credential in business administration.
