(She/Her) Hello! My name is Julia Tuneberg and I am a professional opera singer and professor of voice based in Houston, Texas. I am currently a doctoral student for voice at University of Houston, and have a performance history going back a solid 15 years that covers a wide variety of roles and genres. I was asked to sing with New Orleans Opera's Opera On Tap performing series several times, performing many arias and duets with other local singers in several local venues.

2017 - 2024
I was hired as a soprano chorus member in the Fall of 2017. I sang both chorus and small bit parts in operas such as Don Giovanni, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Joan of Arc, La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, and their 75th Anniversary Gala. I made my solo debut with New Orleans Opera as The Angel in Tchaichovsky's Joan of Arc, performed in English under the late Maestro Robert Lyall.

Biography

Julia Tuneberg

Julia Tuneberg is a rising young artist, Texas native, and upcoming doctorate of music arts student at University of Houston. She is an alumna of Loyola University New Orleans, where she received her masters of music degree and bachelors of music degree. During her studies at Loyola her roles included Lïa in Debussy’s L’Enfant Prodigue, Suor Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Julia was an Apprentice Artist for Miami Music Festival in 2024, and performed as Gerhilde in their production of Wagner’s Die Walküre. She sang professionally with New Orleans Opera Chorus for almost a decade, debuting cameo roles and assorted bits in shows such as Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Puccini’s La Boheme, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, and Tchaichovsky’s Joan of Arc. During her years of performing and education Julia had the privilege of working in many different churches, singing in nearly 15 years of community theater productions, and performing in alternative venues such as Opera on Tap performances and outreach programming for various organizations. 

Starting in the fall of 2025, Julia will begin her Doctorate of Music Arts degree at the University of Houston studying under Melanie Sonnenberg. In addition to a full life of performing and academia, she also maintains a large private voice studio and is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at San Jacinto College.
