Since the age of 5, Maja Pechanach has been immersed in the world of classical music. As a high school student, she was a member of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, she played in numerous competitions and won the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music scholarship competition, was a finalist in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Stars of Tomorrow competition, and took Runner Up in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto competition.
Currently, she is in her third year of a Clarinet Performance degree at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and studies with professors Chad Burrow and Daniel Gilbert. While at school, she performs with the Symphony Band under the direction of Jason Fettig, and has previously performed with the Concert Band under direction of Courtney Snyder and Michael Haithcock. Outside of her school of music curriculum, Maja also is a member of the Michigan Marching Band and has recently traveled to Pasadena, California and Houston, Texas with the football team. Currently, she is the clarinet section leader and serves the band though the music service organization Tau Beta Sigma, where she holds the title of historian.
Maja also enjoys teaching, and through the MSTARS program, she is able to provide free lessons to clarinet students at Scarlett Middle School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In the past, she has also had a small teaching studio made up of young piano, clarinet, and saxophone students in southeast Wisconsin. Maja’s most recent performances highlight her love of all forms of music, including a recital with her wind quintet CHASM, a performance with a student-led jazz group called Blue Bop, and the SMTD Collage Concert, which combines large ensembles with the large variety of artistic disciplines found at the University of Michigan. Maja is looking forward to taking her first professional auditions and beginning her professional performing and teaching career.
