Choral conductor, singer, and life-long learner who is passionate about making meaningful connections rooted in deep understanding and compassion.
The Musical Soul of Jake Runestad showcases not only many of the great works from this American choral icon, but also the works from composers that have influenced him. This list includes composers such as 12th century composer Hildegard von Bingen, early 20th century composer Herbert Howells, to contemporary artists like Dominick Argento and Joni Mitchell. Our distinguished composer will be with us for the world premiere of a new work commissioned by our organization.
Inversion presents Helios, the multimedia work by Timothy Takach, with Visual Projections by Candystations. Positioned at the nexus of science, faith and humanity, Helios spins a narrative of order and chaos, exploring that which is within our control and that which is not and shows that we have the power to change our trajectory. The music provides a constantly changing landscape of textures, soundscapes, vocal techniques and harmonic language. The theme of each planetary movement is inspired by the mythology or science of its namesake and the libretto is a combination of published and commissioned poems from contemporary writers as well as translations of ancient texts.
THE CENTRAL ORB tells a musical story of a journey through the vast space and time around our beautiful globe including all of our individual yet continuously diverse experiences. Some of these may often be as poetically described ‘righteous love affairs’, ‘beams of light in darkness’, and even the ‘glooms of a dark and wintry world’. Hope, however, soars above and we move through experiences of life allowing our natures to feel the eventual eternal day. This program is centered around and inspired by the beautiful words penned by 19th Century Clergyman, H.R. Brawley with the goal of taking the listener on a journey through the ever diverse garden of life.
Join Austin Cantorum for an evening of reflection and renewal, with choral music from all eras celebrating our connection to the world and the joy of finding one's own place in it. Featuring Violinist Christabel Lin performing the quintessential solo in Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending arranged for choir and violin, plus works by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Caroline Shaw, Ethan Wickman, Reena Esmail, and more!
