My name is Michael Ruiz-del-Vizo, I am a Hispanic Scenic Designer and Associate based in New York and Miami. I earned my B.F.A. in Production Design with a concentration in Scenic Design and Art Direction from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Selected Credits: Scenic Designer; Randy’s Dandy Coaster Castle (Egg&Spoon Theatre), Little Women, The Bluest Eye (Theatreworks), ON YOUR FEET! (MAS, Carol Morsani Hall), Peter and the Starcather (TFHNYC), Sense and Sensibility (SCAD), Smokey Joe’s Café (SCAD). Assistant Scenic Designer; FLEX (LCT Mitzi E. Newhouse, Matt Saunders), Ragtime, Into the Woods, She Loves Me (Lee Savage, Signature Theatre), MISTY (The Shed, Rajha Shakiry) New Golden Age (Lee Savage, Primary Stages), HOUND DOG (Frank Olivia, Ars Nova), POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass... (Reid Thompson, Area Stage), Footloose (Paul Tate Depoo III, The Kennedy Center).
As an Artist and Designer, I consider each project a chance to not only hone my individual artistic process but to expand my collaborative relationship with other aspects of design and direction. What I find most uniquely challenging about theatre as an art form is an opportunity to work with other artists who are united in a common goal of creation and story-telling. I look forward to this collaboration because it allows me to learn about other people’s unique perspectives and life experiences. And as Artists, our work becomes better, more honest, and more accurately representative, when we get the chance to tell stories from unique and inclusive perspectives. I’m excited about the chance to work with Design Action because this is an opportunity to meet new Designers, Directors, Technicians, and other industry professionals.
