Biography

Pedro Barrera

Colombian tenor Pedro Barrera, born in Barranquilla, relocated to the United States in 2017 after receiving a full-ride scholarship from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver to pursue his Master's degree. Initially beginning his studies in 2011 as a baritone, Pedro transitioned to tenor in 2019, culminating his graduate studies with a tenor role debut as Gherardo in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, performed by the Lamont Opera Theatre. That summer, Pedro made his professional debut as Goro in Madama Butterfly at the Denver International Festival of Arts & Technology, held at the Newman Center.

In Colombia, Pedro's distinguished engagements included baritone roles with Opera de Colombia, such as the Second Prisoner in Beethoven's Fidelio and Norton in Rossini's La Cambiale Di Matrimonio. As a soloist, Pedro performed the baritone part in Duruflé's Requiem with the Bogotá Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and earned finalist honors in the National Singing Competition in 2015 and 2016.

In spring 2021, Pedro relocated to New York City, where he continued to hone his craft under the tutelage Michael Paul.
