Penelope Teague

Penelope (Poppy) Teague is a senior at Abilene Christian University. Poppy has performed four leading roles with the ACU Opera: Julie Jordan in Rodger and Hammerstein's Carousel, Amahl in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, Cendrillon in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. As a first-semester freshman, Poppy was the second-place finalist in the Texoma region category for first-year treble singers. In her sophomore and junior years, she placed first in Texoma. In the Spring of her sophomore year, she was the winner of the Enkor International Voice competition.  This spring, she won first place in the Tuesday Musical Club of San Antonio Competition, and was given an honorable mention in the Texas Young Artists Competition. For the past two years in a row, Ms. Teague has been named the best freshman-sophomore treble classical singer in the national NATS competition. This summer, she was named the best junior-senior treble classical singer in the same competition. Poppy holds a position as a choral scholar at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest. Before college, Poppy played her banjo on street corners and spent a decade performing with a nonprofit called Courtyard Theatre based in Tulsa, OK, where Poppy grew up. Poppy studies voice with Dr. Rick Piersall.
