Samantha Sosa is a Venezuelan soprano with her Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music where she was granted the Ornest Award presented to students who show excellence in academic and musical study. This summer, she is a Resident Artist at The Glimmerglass Festival where she will perform the role of Lucy in the world premiere of The House on Mango Street and in the ensemble of Tosca. She is also covering the roles of Frieda and Louise in Sunday in the Park with George. She previously performed the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with Vienna Summer Music Festival and Armida in Handel’s Rinaldo at the Manhattan School of Music. She covered the title roles in Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas and Handel’s Alcina with Eastman Opera Theatre. She premiered the roles of Aparecida and Gloria in the opera Macabéa by Suzanne Farrin. Samantha won the Encouragement Award at the Pittsburgh District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons. She has also competed at the Musical International Grand Prix in New York City, winning 2nd and 3rd place in the classical and musical theater categories, and at the Classical Singer Vocal Competition in Chicago, where she was a finalist in both the classical and musical theater categories. She has been a singer with Chicago Summer Opera and the Janiec Opera Company at Brevard Music Center where she sang in a masterclass for Patti LuPone. In addition to opera, Samantha has premiered new works by living composers such as Suzanne Farrin and Mark Contreras Waiss. She has also performed with Eastman’s Collegium Musicum, directed by world-renowned lutenist Paul O’Dette. In regards to musical theater, she has performed the roles of Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, and covered Cinderella in Into the Woods, as well as Maria in West Side Story. As a recording artist, she released two volumes of the album A Sosa - Miller Holiday in collaboration with clarinetist Michael Miller. As an actor, she portrayed Mariette in the film The Saints of the Rue Scribe, which won 29 various Film Festival Awards. Offstage, Samantha founded the Latine Student Alliance, an identity-based student organization for Latinx and Hispanic students at Manhattan School of Music, and served as the Voice Representative for the Classical Voice students at both Manhattan School of Music and Eastman School of Music. In her free time, Samantha enjoys playing tennis, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and her cat!
