Sepehr Davallou is a versatile pianist, vocal coach, and opera répétiteur based in the Boston area. Known for his nuanced interpretations, virtousity, and cross-genre music making, Sepehr has performed at many renowned venues and institutions across the world such as Jordan Hall, Wheeler Opera House, Aspen Music Festival, NOI Festival, Roudaki Hall, and Manhattan School of Music's Miller Hall.
Throughout his career, Sepehr has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Polonsky Foundation Fellowship, and finalist distinction at the Federation of The Art Song Fellowship Competition. He has won prizes at the National Youth Music Festival in Iran, and was a finalist at the first Barbad International Piano Prize. As an opera pianist, he has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition's New England Regional with soprano Alexandra Henderson, and has served in critical music staff roles for productions such as Gluck's Orfeo (assistant music director, NEMPAC and Boston Festival Orchestra), Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream (Miami Music Festival), Die Fledermaus, Die Zauberflöte, and Cinderella (Coach, New England Conservatory), and various productions with the Maryland Opera Studio. Most recently, he was principal harpsichordist and assistant conductor for the first full production of Tim Ribchester's arrangement of Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea at NEC. He has also joined the Boston Lyric Opera's music staff team as master teaching artist and is soon to join Boston Ballet as one of their pianists.
Deeply passionate about text, poetry, and artsong, Sepehr is a frequent recilatist and sought-after coach. He and Alexandra Henderson were finalists and runner-up prize winners of the Federation of The Art Song's Fellowship Competition, later representing the FAS in recital at the Zimmerli Museum in New Jersey. At the New England Conservatory, he has performed in five of the esteemed Liederabend series, performing repertoire spanning from Mozart and Wolf to Poulenc, folk traditions, and contemporary works. Sepehr also frequently champions music of his native Iran and composers of his generation. He is a co-founder of the Music of the Iranian Diaspora initiative alongside colleague Kimia Rafieian and has recently showcased a full performance of Persian Music in Boston's North End alongside Vanessa Naghdi.
Sepehr also has extensive experience with choir work as well. He has been a staff pianist and critical music team at Boston City Singers since 2023, and has served as pianist at Maryland’s Men’s Chorus, Maryland Opera Chorus and University of Tehran’s Chorus. He has attended prestigious music festivals such as Aspen Music Festival and School, Dandelion Opera Institute, and Collaborative Pianist Institute where he got to work with world-renowned artists such as Martin Katz, Kathy Kelly and Warren Jones.
Alongside his performing career, Sepehr is a dedicated music educator. He has taught piano to non-majors at the New England Conservatory's Piano Department, and is currently on the faculty of the Brookline Music School. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Tehran, a Master's in Collaborative Piano from the University of Maryland, a Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Opera Coaching from the New England Conservatory. HIs principal mentors include Cameron Stowe, JJ Penna, Tanya Blaich, Joel Ayau, and Rita Sloan.
