Shannon Johnson

Shannon Johnson is a soprano based in Chicago, Illinois. This past summer, she performed as Florestine in Ghosts of Versailles with Miami Music Festival.

She recently graduated from New England Conservatory with an MM in opera performance in May 2023. During her time at NEC, she made her debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in Boston’s historic Jordan Hall. Johnson is also an alum of Northwestern University, where she received a BM in vocal performance and BA in English literature. There, she studied under Theresa Brancaccio and performed roles such as Mabel in Pirates of Penzance and Europa in L’Elevement d’Europe. While at Northwestern, Johnson studied abroad in Vienna, Austria, where she studied voice with Donna Robin of the Vienna State Opera. 

In addition to opera, she also has experience in pop and musical theater. During her time at Northwestern, she performed in the ensemble of Children of Eden and has performed roles such as Maria in West Side Story and Cosette in Les Miserables. She was also a member of the acapella group known as the Northwestern Undertones, who were semi-finalists in the 2018 ICCA’s. Additionally, Johnson has experience as a teaching artist for young children, specializing in classical and musical theater. She currently directs, assistant directs, and teaches voice lessons at BAMtheatre, an organization based in Hinsdale, Illinois that focuses on teaching and educational programming for students between the ages of 3 and 17.
