Zoë Simone García, a Mexican-American coloratura soprano from Northern California, is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at California State University, Sacramento, where she studies with mezzo-soprano Julie Miller and opera director Ryan Murray. She is also a recent graduate of St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education.
Her most recent operatic experience includes her European debut of La Fée in Massenet’s Cendrillon through the Berlin Opera Academy, her performance of Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and is currently studying Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.
In addition to opera, she has a profound love for performing in intimate and sacred spaces. Through styles such a recital and oratorio, Zoë has developed an affinity for baroque music. She delights in the rigorous counterpoint and spiritual depth of Bach, and in the creative possibilities offered by Handel’s expressive Da Capo arias.
She balances her passion for Baroque repertoire with a commitment to new music, most recently as both performer and poet in the premiere of Will Rand’s “That I Was Awake,” a work engaging with climate change and humanity’s relationship with the earth.
Zoë is devoted to sharing music that uplifts, challenges, and unites audiences across cultures. She loves what performing as a singer asks of her; the ability to be present, engage in creative collaboration, and to listen deeply within in a busy world.
