Alejandra Valarino Boyer is an arts administrator dedicated to creating positive social impact and building community through the arts. She leads Seattle Opera’s learning programs and community engagement initiatives as its Director of Programs and Partnerships, with a focus on expanding the company’s social impact, building future audiences, and enriching experiences for opera audiences. Most recently she developed a fellowship program for arts administrators of color and a new works program for emerging Washington State composers and librettists, and oversees the company's racial equity work. Alejandra is the founder of BIPOC Arts, an online database of opera professionals of color that celebrates BIPOC artists and administrators. Previously, Alejandra was the Director of Community Programs at Lyric Opera of Chicago, where she oversaw community engagement initiatives, including creative youth development programs and artistic productions. Alejandra worked closely with community organizations to grow Lyric’s presence outside of the Lyric Opera House. She developed Lyric’s Caminos a la ópera, which engaged with Chicago’s Latinx communities through collaborative and culturally relevant events and programs. Alejandra is an alumna of American Express Leadership Academy and Opera America's Leadership Intensive. She serves on the Opera America’s Racial Justice Network and Women’s Opera Network steering committees. She holds degrees in music from Florida State University and Northwestern University.
