Biography

Anne Hiatt

Anne is the co-founder and general director of the national organization Opera on Tap, which has the mission of bringing opera to new audiences by taking it to places where people least expect to experience it. She is the executive producer of Opera on Tap's program the Immersive Opera Project which brings together partners across the performing arts industry and tech to explore and create new works of opera that deeply integrate emerging technologies like AR and VR. Her producing credits include the world’s first VR opera The Parksville Murders, that won Best VR Video at the NYC Independent Film Festival and was an official selection at Topanga Film Festival and Future of Storytelling. She co-produced the premiere of the critically acclaimed data-mining opera by Kamala Sankaram, Kristin Marting and Rob Handel Looking at You in partnership with HERE Arts Center and Carnegie Mellon in September 2019 and is currently producing the touring production. She is also spearheading development on a site-specific AR opera called Joan of the City by Kamala Sankaram and Kristin Marting which seeks to focus a lens on the perils of gentrification and the plight of our homeless populations in our urban centers. With over 15 years of experience in non-profit management, development and opera production, she currently oversees the programs, and operations of 27 Chapters of Opera on Tap across the nation and world and has acted as executive producer of Opera on Tap’s major new works programs since 2012. Under Anne’s leadership, Opera on Tap has grown into a large national network of artist-entrepreneurs, performers, creators, supporters and audiences. It has gained international recognition as an innovative force on the classical music scene with features in such media outlets as The NY Times, NPR All Things Considered, The Wall Street Journal, NY1, USA Today, NHK/ Japan National Public TV, Tagesspiegel, The NY Daily News, WNYC, Boston Globe, Chicago Today, Chicago Reader, the LA Times, LA Weekly, and Seattle Weekly among many others.
