Biography

Carole Schultz

Soprano Carole Schultz began her singing career by stealing the microphone from her mother when they cantored at church. It was a slow takeover, where she would slowly inch to the right, positioning her face directly in front of the mic stand, forcing her mother out of the mic’s pick-up range and dangerously close to the neck of her father’s guitar. As she matured, she learned better social skills and has learned to cooperate with others and share the spotlight. Performance highlights include the title role in Susannah, Ilia in Idomeneo, Musetta in La bohème, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Elle in La voix humaine. In addition to her onstage experience, Carole has worked behind the scenes as both an Assistant Director at local professional company AOT as well as an Assistant Stage Manager at both AOT and Mill City Summer Opera. Carole holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of St. Thomas and both a Master’s and Doctorate of Music from the University of Minnesota, during which she held the Carolyn Argento Fellowship, a full music scholarship sponsored by the late composer Dominick Argento. During the Covid shutdown, Carole and long-time pianist friend Elizabeth Chua decided it was time to form their long-talked about musical duo, Overdressed. The duo began putting on public outdoor concerts in the summer, and as their audience continued to build, the concerts became weekly events, with guest artists and a wide variety of repertoire.
