Biography

Sofia Selowsky

Sofia Selowsky made a noteworthy role debut as Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia for Houston Grand Opera in the 17/18 season. Of her performance, Opera News said, “The brightest light of the performance was mezzo-soprano Sofia Selowsky as Rosina, whose singing featured a honey-rich sound with a silvery top end, even projection throughout her range, and amazingly clear passagework.” This season, Selowsky joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera for the first time for productions of Manon and Akhnaten, debuted as a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony, and was slated to perform Iris L. in the premiere of Awakenings with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In the 18/19 season, Ms. Selowsky continued to take on leading roles in her repertoire, including the title role in Handel’s Agrippina for Ars Lyrica Houston, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with the Jacksonville Symphony, and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte with the Rochester Philharmonic. Additional debuts in the season included Handel’s Messiah with the Kansas City Symphony and Mozart’s Requiem with the Charlotte Symphony. Previous operatic debuts include the American premiere of Phillip Glass' The Trial with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, the Stewardess in Jonathan Dove’s Flight with Des Moines Metro Opera, and Mercédès in Carmen with the Atlanta Opera. She has made concert debuts with the Lexington Philharmonic in Argento’s Casa Guidi, the North Carolina Symphony in Mozart’s Requiem, the Minnesota Orchestra for Handel's Messiah, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
