Dutch conductor Robert Kahn was recently chosen as the 2019 Conducting Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he is mentored by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Robert Kahn
Dutch conductor Robert Kahn is the 2019 Conducting Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music, working closely with Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Conversant with both operatic and symphonic repertoire, Robert has served as assistant conductor for both the Curtis Opera and the Juilliard Opera, and served as assistant conductor for the Mannes Opera for the 2015-18 seasons. As a recipient of the Julius Rudel Conducting Award, Robert served as cover conductor with the Buffalo Philharmonic under JoAnn Faletta, and also covered with the Fort Worth Symphony under Miguel Harth-Bedoya. In the summer of 2018, he was one of twelve participants at the Menuhin Festival’s Gstaad Conducting Academy. Passionate about new music, Robert collaborated with David Hertzberg to conduct the studio recording of his opera, The Rose Elf, after conducting the opera in a workshop performance at Opera Philadelphia’s Double Exposure workshop. With On Site Opera, Robert conducted a newly commissioned opera by John Musto. Robert received his Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting at The Mannes School of Music, studying with David Hayes. He holds a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Clarinet from The Johns Hopkins University and Peabody Conservatory.
