Biography

Taylor Burkhardt

Taylor Burkhardt is a multifaceted musician, working as a vocal coach, conductor, chamber musician, and répétiteur. She most recently held the position of Resident Artist Pianist at Utah Opera in Salt Lake City, UT from 2019-2021. In the 2018-2019 season, Taylor worked at Mill City Summer Opera, Kentucky Opera, Virginia Opera, and the Atlanta Opera, where she played and coached several mainstage and educational productions. She has served as coaching faculty at Spotlight on Opera Online, Utah Vocal Arts Academy Summer Opera Festival in Orem, UT, and at Druid City Opera Workshop in Tuscaloosa, AL. As a song partner, Taylor has a rich, broad repertoire that she has performed with fellow emerging artists in recital, competitions, and masterclasses with world-renowned artists at venues including Source Song Festival, the Missouri Theatre, and Hahn Hall in Santa Barbara, CA. She recently combined her love of opera and chamber music to create her doctoral thesis at the University of Minnesota, her own arrangement of La voix humaine by Francis Poulenc for piano quartet and soprano. An avid proponent of new music, she recently prepared rehearsals and played orchestral piano for the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin's Crossing Suite, has performed Stephen Hough's Other Love Songs in the four-hands version with the composer himself, has performed under the supervision of composers Edie Hill, Jocelyn Hagen, David Biedenbender, Andrew List, and Nick Omiccioli, and has been a part of over twenty world premieres. Taylor is a graduate of the doctoral program at the University of Minnesota, where she studied with Timothy Lovelace and Margo Garrett and was studio pianist for Adriana Zabala and John De Haan. She is also an alumna of the Music Academy of the West, where she primarily studied with Warren Jones.
