Biography

A.J. Neubert

AJ Neubert is a Bassoonist from Buffalo, New York who is currently studying at the Oberlin College & Conservatory with Drew Pattison. Throughout his studies, AJ has constantly attempted to challenge himself and push the limits of his musical development. While at Oberlin, he has been a finalist in a number of national and international competitions. Some of his placements include 1st place in the National Bassoon Excerpt Competition (2021) and 2nd in the International Double Reed Society Norma Hooks Young Artist Competition (2021).

AJ spent the summer of 2022 as a bassoon fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where he was training extensively in both chamber music and orchestral performance. Besides the TMC Orchestra, AJ has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic. Apart from classical music, he enjoys playing all genres including jazz and rock and can often be found performing with various bands across Buffalo. Away from the bassoon, AJ enjoys traveling, rock climbing, and playing golf with friends.
