Akshaya Lakshmi is an Indo-Canadian soprano, known for her versatile voice and commanding stage presence. Driven by a deep commitment to diversity and representation, she is passionate about fostering a more inclusive and equitable artistic community. She is currently pursuing graduate studies in Voice Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) under the tutelage of Catherine Cook. Akshaya also holds a Bachelor of Medical Sciences and a University Certificate in Marketing.
On the operatic stage, Akshaya has performed a dynamic range of roles. Recent highlights include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) at SFCM, Musetta (La Bohème) with the Regium Lepidi Opera Festival at Teatro Asioli - Correggio, and Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) with Varna International Music Academy. She has also featured in scenes or partial roles as Gilda (Rigoletto), Mlle. Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), Carolina (Il matrimonio segreto), Frasquita (Carmen), Despina (Così fan tutte), and Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw).
In musical theatre, Akshaya has performed with both professional and community theatre ⁹companies. Recent credits include Sister Sophia/Maria Understudy (The Sound of Music) with Berkeley Playhouse. Other notable roles include Lilly (Swingtime Canteen), Corine (Triumph of Love), Diana Barry (Anne of Green Gables), Pearl (Ghost Quartet), Shelly/Annie (Evil Dead the Musical). Offstage, Akshaya has also worked as a director, choreographer, and music director for numerous productions.
This summer, she is so excited to be making her debut as Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance) with Stafford Opera Troupe and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) with No Strings Theatre.
