Chicago based soprano Alannah Spencer is a natural storyteller at ease with both song and operatic repertoire. She can be heard singing three new arias on the forthcoming album “A Horse With Wings: the Shakespeare Settings of Elizabeth Rudolph.” Alannah has an affinity for performing overlooked gems of the operatic repertoire. She was most recently seen on stage as Luise Eugen d’Aubert’s seldom performed Die Abreise with Evanston Chamber Opera. Other overlooked roles on Alannah's resume include Bagatelle in Offenbach’s Bagatelle and Clytemnestra in Milhaud’s Agamemnon (both with Roosevelt University Opera). Never one to forsake the classics, Alannah has performed Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Sandman in Hansel and Gretel and a variety of roles from the more popular canon as well. A great lover of art song and new music, Alannah enjoys collaborating with composers and premiering new works. She was the singer for the second place team at the inaugural Chicago SongSlam, a new-music art song competition, hosted by Lori Laitman. Alannah is also the vocalist for the voice and percussion duo VoxBox which specializes in performing premiers. With degrees from Roosevelt University and the University of Wisconsin Madison, Alannah is a lifelong Midwesterner. She is a founding member of the feminist opera collective the Valkyrie Ensemble and is a choral section leader at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Evanston. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to museums, and trying to create the perfect cheese plate.
