Is Musical Consultant of Spoleto’s Festival of Two Worlds and Artistic Director of Ancona’s Teatro delle Muse. Before Alessio Vlad has worked as Artistic Director of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, and the Teatro di San Carlo in Napoli. Under his direction, the Teatro Carlo Felice twice won the “Premio Abbiati” of the Italian press: for Britten’s “Death in Venice” and for Verdi’s “Don Carlo.” The same prize was also awarded to the Teatro delle Muse for his presentation of Hans Wener Henze’s “Elegy for young lovers”. He was, futhermore, Artistic Director of Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo and of the Ravello Festival. He is member of the Artistic Comitee of Accademia Filarmonica Romana. Conductor, composer and arts administrator, Alessio Vlad started his career under Leonard Bernstein. His debut as a conductor took place at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano at the invitation of Hans Werner Henze. Just before he assisted Nino Rota at the Spoleto’s Festival of Two Worlds. Since then he has conducted for many Orchestras and Opera Theatres in Europe and America including the Orchestras of the Theatres of Bologna, Rome, Palermo, Cagliari, the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma and the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI in Torino, the Schleswig-Holstein Philarmonie, the Phlarmonie of Nationen, the Dresden Philarmonie, the Weimar Staatskapelle, the Nurnemberg Symphoniker, the Mainz Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Capitol de Toulouse , the Philarmonia Enescu of Bucarest, the Toronto Philarmonia, the Opera Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, the Cairo Opera Theatre, the Kiev Opera, the Angers and Nantes Opera, Las Palmas Opera Festival, MiTo Festival, collaborating with singers such as Roberto Alagna, Carlos Alvarez, Marcello Giordani, Renato Bruson, Barbara Hendricks, Cecilia Bartoli, Renata Scotto, Raina Kabaivanska and composer such as Hans Werner Henze and Luciano Berio. At the Ravello Festival he founded a Youth Orchestra conducting and playing with soloists such as Frank Peter Zimmemann, Misha Maisky and Mariella Devia. He has recorded many works with Roma’s Santa Cecilia Chamber Orchestra – Pergolesi, Vivaldi, Puccini, Catalani, Bach -. Vlad’s achievmeents as composer include works for Theatre and Film, on behalf of directors such as Bernardo Bertolucci and Franco Zeffirelli. For Bertolucci, his score for “Besieged” won the 1999 Golden Globe for the best Italian Soundtrack. For Zeffirelli, he composed music for Pirandello’s “Six Characters in Search of an Author,” (in Italy and at the National Theatre in London); and for the films “Sparrow,” “Jane Eyre,” “A Tea with Mussolini,” and for “Callas Forever.” To remark also the long collaboration with Cristina Comencini (among others the score for the film “Va dove ti porta il cuore”) and with Giorgio Ferrara (for the film “Tosca e altre due” and, last season at the Theatre de Montparnasse in Paris and at La Biennale di Venezia, the music for the Strehler- Goldoni’s play “Memoires” at in Rome, at Fori Romani, “ The Tiberio Case ”). In April 2007 the Toronto Philarmonia dedicated a very succesful concert to Alessio Vlad’s music for Franco Zeffirelli’s movies, which Vlad conducted. Of this year is the commision and performance at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte of Montepulciano, of a big piano composition, of a musical- theatrical piece for the Franko Theatre in Kiev and the commision for new creation for the San José Ballett in USA.
