Alex is a French horn player and active performer in the Phoenix Metro area, having come up through the tight knit musical community in the Valley of the Sun.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and most recently a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music.
From coast to coast, Alex has strived to bring dazzling performances to audiences of all kinds. But he didn’t do it on his own. He learned from some of the best brass players in the world, including Eli Epstein, Dr. John Ericson, Gabriel Kovach, Jean Rife, Norman Bolter, Patrick Sheridan, Sam Pilafian, and the members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his career, Alex has delivered remarkable performances with groups such as the Phoenix Symphony, the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arizona Philharmonic, Musica Nova Orchestra, Salt River Brass, Red Rock Brass, Valley Brass, and the Phoenix Brass Collective.
As an educator Alex is dedicated to bringing a holistic musical experience to his students and audiences. What we learn through music education shouldn’t be limited to the classroom, but instead used as a force for making change in the world, an objective born out through the work of Opuntia Winds, a group which is dedicated to bringing the music of underrepresented composers to underserved communities and of which Alex is a founding member. Alex currently holds teaching positions at Scottsdale Community College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and several high schools through out the Phoenix area, along with his own private studio and works every day to show his students how they can impact the world with music.
In the spring of 2020, Alex returned to Arizona State University to pursue his Doctor of Musical Arts degree and is expecting to graduate in the spring of 2024 . You can hear Alex’s most recent work on the album Resolutions, which he recorded with the Valley Trio.
