Alexandra Dietrich, a Puerto Rican American originally from Freeport, Maine, is a mezzo-soprano and director who is being praised for singing with "passion and understanding" and whose direction has been called "brilliant" and "moving". Ms. Dietrich joined the University of Southern Maine in the Fall of 2019 as Artist Faculty in Voice and served as the Artistic Director at NEMPAC Opera from 2018 to 2022.
Ms. Dietrich is a proud graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor's in Music Performance, and attended the Longy School of Music for her Graduate Performance degree in Opera. Her 2019-2020 season opened with Odyssey Opera's concert performance of "Henry VIII" where she sang as a Page and Maid of Honor, and as the Alto Soloist in the Metropolitan Chorale and Chorus pro Musica's performance of Mendelssohn's "Die erste Walpurgisnacht" and Kodály’s "Budavári Te Deum". Ms. Dietrich has performed with many New England area opera companies and orchestras including Odyssey Opera, Juventas New Music Ensemble, and MassOpera where her performance as Jo March in Adamo's "Little Women" was hailed as "large of personality with an instrument to match", possessed "polish and star power", and was awarded the ArtsImpulse Award for Best Female Performer in an Opera for her portrayal. Ms. Dietrich performed with the Boston Pops, Salem Philharmonic Orchestra, Odyssey Opera, and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. She also sang with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project's in "Haroun and the Sea of Stories" and "The Trial at Rouen" where she was featured as a Bird soloist and in the Heavenly Voice Trio, respectively. Both recordings on the BMOP/sound record label are available on Spotify. Ms. Dietrich has served as the Artistic Director of NEMPAC Opera Project since the Fall of 2018.
