Alexandra F. Light (USA, 1992) is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on choreography. Her work explores ideas of ecology, ritual, psychology, and the female experience. She holds a BS in psychology, magna cum laude, and has danced for Texas Ballet Theater since 2012 where she is a Principal Dancer. Her choreography has been presented in such institutions as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Katzen Art Center of American University.
Alexandra F. Light is a dancer and choreographer currently based in Dallas, TX. Originally from Washington, DC, she trained with Maryland Youth Ballet, San Francisco Ballet School, School of American Ballet, and Houston Ballet Academy before joining Houston Ballet’s second company in 2011. Now in her 12th season performing with Texas Ballet Theater under the direction of Ben Stevenson OBE and Tim O’Keefe, she achieved the rank of principal dancer. She has performed a majority of the classical and contemporary repertoire with choreography by Balanchine, Robbins, Stevenson, Wheeldon, Forsythe, Tetley, Acosta, among others, and has originated roles in works by Ma Cong, Ben Stevenson OBE, Kitty McName, Garret Smith, Val Caniparoli, among others. During her stage career, she has devoted time to studying human behavior, visual art, and composition with the University of Maryland Global Campus, culminating in a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, magna cum laude, in 2020. Incorporating her performance career and her studies, her choreographic work reflects themes of gender issues, her diasporic ancestry, and the earth we live on into abstract narratives that reach local and global communities. She has worked and created for brands like Spectrum and Shokz, created music videos for artists Laura Brehm and Nikonn and label UNDO records, and has had her dance works performed with the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Katzen Arts Center at American University, the Steps Beyond Foundation, Texas Ballet Theater, Texas Ballet Theater School, the Frank Lloyd Wright Darwin D. Martin House, and more.
