Chicago-based mezzo-soprano Alexis Peart has been praised for her “plush yet robust voice” and “incredible clarity" in roles ranging from baroque operas to world premiere performances. She joins the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in the 25/26 season, making her house debut as Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and the Second Image of Frida (El último sueño de Frida y Diego). She also covers Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Despina (Così fan tutte), and Second Maidservant (Medea). Additionally in this season, Alexis appears as the Mezzo Soloist in Mahler's Symphony No. 3 with the Vista Philharmonic Orchestra and covered Ruggerio in Handel's Alcina with Haymarket Opera Company.
Notable awards and honors include the Audience Favorite Award for the Lyric Opera of Chicago Ryan Opera Center Finals Auditions (2024) and the New England Region Encouragement Award Winner (2023) and Boston District Winner (2023) of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
A former Jane & Steven Akin Emerging Artist with Boston Lyric Opera, Alexis made her company debut in 2023 as Tisbe (La Cenerentola - Rossini), and was featured subsequently in the 23/24 season as Big Stone (Eurydice) and the 23/24 season as Arbate (Mitridate, re di Ponto - Mozart), Mrs. Noah (Noah's Flood - Britten), and originate the role of The Choreographer (The Seasons - Vivaldi/Sarah Ruhl.) With Boston Lyric Opera, Alexis also covered Farnace (Mitridate, re di Ponto - Mozart) and Dorothée (L'Amant Anonyme - Joseph Bologne).
In the 2023/2024 season, Alexis additionally appeared as Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte - Mozart) with The Princeton Festival, Lamptio (Lysistrata - Mark Adamo) with Boston Modern Orchestra Project, covered the title role in Ariodante (Handel) with Boston Baroque, and performed as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Columbus Symphony, Mahler's Symphony No. 3 with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, Julia Perry's Stabat Mater with Castle of our Skins, and a program of Emily Dickinson-inspired works by contemporary female composers with the Boston Festival Orchestra.
Her recording credits include Mezzo 1 on Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera's Grammy-nominated recording of Anthony Davis' X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, and on several art song recordings released by PARMA Recordings, LLC. Alexis is a two-time alumna of the Wolf Trap Opera Studio (2020/2021) and a previous Studio Artist at Chautauqua Opera Company (2023).
