Biography

Alicia Esmeralda Barry

ALICIA ESMERALDA BARRY is a mezzo-soprano from Huntingdon Valley,

Pennsylvania. She recently earned a M.M. degree in Voice Performance and

Literature at Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester where she

studied with Katherine Ciesinski. Alicia received her B.M. degree in Voice

Performance from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in

Lawrenceville, NJ where she studied under Sharon Sweet. With a strong

concert background, Alicia Esmeralda recently made her return with the

Rochester Oratorio Society as the featured mezzo-soprano soloist in Palmerí’s

Misatango under the direction of Eric Townell. Prior to that, she made her debut

with the Rochester Oratorio Society as the mezzo-soprano soloist in “Freedom

Song: When Gospel Came To America”

. She also was a featured soloist during

the Finger Lakes Choral festival where she sang in both the Misa Criolla by Ariel

Ramirez and A Caribbean Mass by Glenn McClure. Ms.Barry was also alto

soloist with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus in the Ethel Smyth Mass in D under

the direction of William Weinert. Ms. Barry is also recognized for her operatic

appearances. In 2025 she made her house debut as Kate Pinkerton from

Madame Butterfly with Austin Opera. In the same season, she also joined Opera

San Antonio for their production where she studied the role of Suzuki and

performed in the chorus. In 2023, she gave her debut performance as Carmen

with the Latin American Opera Studio in Panama. That same year, Alicia

Esmeralda performed the role of Paula in Florencia en el Amazonas with

Eastman Opera Theater. In 2022, she made her Carnegie Hall debut as a

concert soloist in Weill Recital Hall performing selections from both Carmen and

Cosi fan tutti. Her other notable roles include Suzuki, from Madame Butterfly,

Dorabella from Così fan tutte, Gertrude in Hänsel und Gretel, Charlotte from

Werther, Cendrillion from Cendrillion, Madame de la Haltière from Cendrillion,

the Second Stepsister in The True Story of Cinderella, Hippolyta from A

Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Ms. Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief. Inaddition to her vocal artistry, Alicia Esmeralda is a classically trained flutist
