Biography

Amanda Olea

Amanda Olea is a Mexican-American soprano, celebrated for her "tender and realistic acting" paired with a "spectacular high register." Known for her artistry and versatility, Amanda has captivated audiences across the United States, performing with renowned companies such as Santa Fe Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Central City Opera.

In 2024, Amanda won First Place in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition. She headlined the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus’ 2023/24 season opener, performing Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915.

A champion of new music, Amanda made her international debut in 2021, starring in Diario de un Fantasma, a one-woman opera composed by her father, Oscar Olea, at the Festival Internacional Divertimento in Mexico City. Additionally, Amanda has worked closely with composers, notably participating in Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works program for Kevin Puts' opera The Hours.  Her passion for innovation and collaboration continues to shape her artistic path, frequently curating recitals that blend diverse disciplines and feature both contemporary and rarely performed works.

Her time as a studio artist with Florida Grand Opera included performances in roles such as Ms. Lightfoot in Fellow Travelers, Mexican Woman in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto. In 2022, Amanda joined Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist, appearing in the world premiere of Huang Ruo’s M. Butterfly and participating in the productions of Carmen and Falstaff. She also impressed audiences in the company's Apprentice Scenes showcase, singing the roles of Despina in Così fan tutte and Luisa in Luisa Fernanda.

As a concert soloist, Amanda has been featured in Carmina Burana with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, Handel’s Messiah with the Cincinnati Collegium and Lebanon Symphony Orchestra, Faure’s Requiem and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio with the San Diego Festival Chorus.

Her talent has been recognized in competitions nationwide, including two consecutive John Alexander Memorial Awards in the prestigious Corbett Opera Competition (2019, 2020), and she is a proud protégé of the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego since 2016.

Amanda holds a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts. She completed her undergraduate studies at San Diego State University, where she is now a valued faculty member, mentoring the next generation of vocal artists through her private studio.
