American Soprano, Amanda Sesler, has a passion for both performing and teaching. Amanda has an exciting season coming in 2021. Starting as an ensemble member of the new Opera 'I Dream" with Opera Carolina, then she will be a featured artist in Opera 101 at CPCC, will appear as Fanny Crosby in the Fanny Crosby Oratorio with Chun University. She will appear in several recitals with Opera Carolina. Amanda had a busy 2019/20 season as a Resident Artist with Opera Carolina. She is in her second season with OperaXpress as the soprano in The Ugly Duckling. She was Buzz in A Busy Bee with Opera Xpress, performing in elementary schools all over the greater Charlotte Metropolitan Area. She was a core member of the Opera Carolina Chorus and appeared in Carmen and Eugene Onegin. She also was a Teaching Artist at Children's Theater Charlotte where she taught voice lessons and was an instructor in their conservatory program. In summer of 2019, she will make her company debut with GLOW Lyric Theater as Micaëla in Carmen. She enjoyed engaging with students throughout southern Indiana with Reimagining Opera for Kids. With ROK, Amanda has performed the role Anna in Spirits and the Tortoise and the Sun in Aesop's Fables. Both are new commission/ collaborations with composer Anthony Plog. She also portrayed Rita in a ‘choose your own adventure opera’ called Rufus and Rita by Lauren Bernofsky, Creator, Eagle, Moon Chief in The Firebringers by Chappell Kingsland, and First Lady and Pamina in an English adaptation of The Magic Flute. Amanda made her Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater debut as Kitty Hart in Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking. While at Indiana University, she was a Soprano Soloist in Rossini's Missa Solemnis under the baton of Betsy Burleigh. Scene performances include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Arabella in Arabella with IU Graduate Opera Workshop. She was also in the chorus of South Pacific, La Boheme, and Oklahoma!. Amanda performed Yvette in La Rondine and Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy under the baton of Maestro Joseph Rescigno. She was the featured soloist with the Lafayette Bach Chorale in their Brahms Liebeslieder Concert. She was awarded the Robert and Sophia Marks First Prize Award by the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale in 2015. Amanda toured China with the Windiana Concert Band as the vocal soloist on the New Year's Eve Golden Age of Broadway Tour. She was thrilled to share classic broadway tunes with audiences throughout southern China. She has studied with Braeden Harris, Julia Faulkner, Alice Hopper, Mary Anne Scott, Brygida Bziukiewicz Kulig, Alan Bennett, Scharmal Schrock, and Susan Huster. She has coached with Kimberly Carballo, Gary Arvin, David Neely, Mark Phelps, Kevin Murphy, Heidi Grant Murphy, and Joseph Rescigno. Amanda holds a Bachelor in Music Education and a Master of Music in Voice from Indiana University. Amanda is an experienced recitalist, performing throughout Indiana. She has given masterclasses in Pennsylvania and Indiana. She was a Professor of Voice at Butler Voice Camp. She currently teaches privately from her home in Mooresville, NC. Amanda currently studies with Victoria Livengood. When Amanda isn’t performing or teaching privately, she enjoys hiking, sewing, camping, and baking.
