Amira Joy Coleman is a 26-year-old soprano from the sunny Sunflower state of Kansas. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in vocal performance at Michigan State University under the instruction of Richard Fracker. Coleman has a passion for storytelling and bringing joy to her audiences through music via the mediums of operatic, solo and choral performance. During her masters’ studies, Coleman had the opportunity to play Anne Egerman in MSU Opera Theater’s award-winning production of A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim, as well as Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. As an undergraduate Coleman was in the North American premiere of Adam Gorb’s opera Path to Heaven with the Wichita State University Opera Theater, playing the role of Hanna. Amira Joy's other engagements include soloing in the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra performance of Handel's Messiah in 2024, performing with Music on Site, Inc., and Wichita Grand Opera. In addition to working as a soloist at Presbyterian Church of Okemos, and regularly soloing with the MSU Chamber Choir, Coleman has a thriving voice studio as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at MSU and is one of the four performers in the MSU Opera Outreach program. In her free time, Amira Joy loves going on walks, crocheting, or curling up under a blanket with a good book.
