Hailed by Opera News for her “strong, vibrant soprano” with a “rich, dark low register and gleaming top,” soprano Andrea Carroll is currently in her fourth season as an ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera. This season, Ms. Carroll debuts with Den Norske Opera in Oslo as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, makes her house and role debut at the Dallas Opera as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and debuts with the Tokyo Philharmonic as Micaëla in Carmen. She also returns to the Vienna State Opera for her first performances of Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera, debuts as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and reprises Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and Norina in Don Pasquale. Next season, Andrea makes her company debuts with San Diego Opera, The Wiener Musikverein, The Metropolitan Opera, and returns to Garsington Opera. Last season at the Vienna State Opera, Ms. Carroll performed Norina in Don Pasquale, Musetta in La Bohème, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, and Kitty in the world premiere of Die Weiden by Johannes Maria Staud. She also returned to Houston Grand Opera as Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles. In the 2017-2018 season, Ms. Carroll was Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Nannetta in Falstaff, and Gilda in Rigoletto, all at the Wiener Staatsoper. In a return to Houston Grand Opera, she sang the role of Maria in West Side Story. Ms. Carroll was a winner of a 2018 Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant. Andrea opened the 2016-2017 season singing Micaëla in Carmen with Opera San Antonio. She created the role of Mary Bailey in the world premiere of Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life with Houston Grand Opera, sang Gilda in Rigoletto with Palm Beach Opera, was Mélisande in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande with Garsington Opera, and performed a concert of Mozart arias with Musica Angelica Baroque in Los Angeles. In her first season as a Vienna State Opera ensemble member, Ms. Carroll performed over 15 roles, which included creating the role of Fatima in the world premiere of Johanna Doderer's Fatima, Woglinde in Das Rheingold/Götterdämmerrung, Waldvogel in Siegfried, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Musetta in La bohème, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte. Ms. Carroll made her Washington National Opera debut in the 2014-2015 season as Rosalba in Florencia en el Amazonas, followed by her first performances of Gilda in Rigoletto with Opera Santa Barbara. She sang the role of the Princess in El gato con botas with Gotham Chamber Opera, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos at Seattle Opera, and returned to Utah Opera to sing Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles. Andrea was a two-year member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio. During her time at HGO she sang Musetta in La bohème, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Anne Egerman in A Little Night Music, the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury, and Woglinde in a new production of Das Rheingold. She made her debut with Utah Opera as Rosalba in Florencia en al Amazonas and with Fort Worth Opera as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. At Glimmerglass Opera, Ms. Carroll performed the role of Julie Jordan in Carousel and Rose Segal in John Musto’s Later the Same Evening. She spent two summers with Wolf Trap Opera where she sang Corinna in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims and Zerlina in Don Giovanni.
