Angela Born
(She/Her) Angela Born is an opera theatre artist with a “rich, clear voice geared towards storytelling." Roles range from the titular role of Carmen, to Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle), to the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel).

Angela is also frequently sought as an interpreter of new works. From Marjorie, a 1920's alcoholic songbird (Fizz and Ginger) to Mother, a paranoid woman plagued by dementia (Beowulf), to a literal Cat (The Man who Woke up), Angela brings “fire and dramatic conviction” (Chicago Classical Review) to every role she presents.

Biography

Angela Born

Angela Born is a fach-defying opera theatre artist with a  “rich, clear voice geared towards storytelling” (Chicagoland Musical Theatre). With roles ranging from Judith in Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle to Mimì in La Bohème  (Chicago City Opera) to the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel (Lyric Opera of the North), Angela is sure to bring “fire and dramatic conviction” (Chicago Classical Review) to every role she presents.

Resistant to boxes, Angela “rejoiced greatly” as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with Morton Choir and Orchestra, only to turn around and bring the “refiner’s fire” as the alto soloist as a guest artist with Wheaton College three months later.

As a staunch advocate for new music, Angela feels deeply connected to the art form when she is working alongside the living, breathing composers of today.  She is a frequently sought after interpreter of new works, premiering both art songs and operatic works for their midwestern, national, and international debuts. From Marjorie, a 1920’s alcoholic songbird in Fizz and Ginger by Whitney E. George and Bea Goodwin (Chicago Fringe Opera), to Mother, a woman plagued by dementia and paranoia in Han Lash’s Beowulf (Third Eye Theatre Ensemble), to a literal Cat in Robin Haigh’s The Man who Woke up (Thompson Street Opera Company), Angela will meet you there.

When not singing, Angela can be found obsessing over her cats, bothering her spouse, napping, and attempting to keep plants alive.
