Angela Fout

American soprano Angela Fout’s operatic repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary, and she is an avid concert and festival performer on the national and international stage. After seven busy and exciting seasons living and working in Europe, Ms. Fout has recently returned to the United States, appearing with North Carolina Opera and Opera Memphis as Mimi in their productions of La bohème, New Orleans Opera to reprise her celebrated Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Arizona Opera as Lona Farrell in the world premiere of Arizona Lady. Additionally, she has appeared with Portland Symphony (opening their 90th season) and the Arizona Music Fest for performances of Janacek’s seldom-heard Glagolitic Mass. Ms. Fout’s dramatic appearances have included turns with New York City Opera, Spoleto Festival, Vancouver Opera, Minnesota Opera, Atlanta Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, and Wolf Trap Opera, Theater St. Gallen, and Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar where she has acquired title roles in Arabella, Madame Butterfly, Verdi’s Giovanna D’Arco and La Traviata, Mayr’s Medea in Corinto, and Floyd’s Susannah. Other celebrated highlights include Liza in Pique Dame, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Agathe in Die Freischutz, Mozart ladies Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Elettra in Idomeneo. In addition, she has greatly enjoyed bringing operettas to the stage, such as the title role in Die lustige Witwe, Gräfin Zedlau in Wienerblut, and her most frequently performed role, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. Angela Fout completed her undergraduate education at The Juilliard School in 2000, and was immediately accepted into the Juilliard Opera Center. Upon completion of her studies, Juilliard Opera Center awarded her their most prestigious prize: the DeRosa Career Grant. Angela was an apprentice artist at San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and a young artist at the Aspen Music Festival and Wolf Trap Opera Center. She began her professional career at New York City Opera, where she debuted as Micaela in Carmen in 2004 and was invited back to sing Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro. Angela has won countless awards for her vocal performance, including first place prizes in the Metropolitan Opera Regional Auditions, Connecticut Opera Competition, Palm Beach Opera Competition, and Annapolis Opera Competition, where she also was awarded the audience choice prize. Ms. Fout was also a national finalist in the Houston Grand Opera Competition, Zachary Foundation, Mac Allister Awards as well as a national semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition. She is also the recipient of the Schaenen Foundation Career Grant and a two-time recipient of a Shouse Grant from the Wolf Trap Opera Company. Most recently, Ms. Fout made her Carnegie Hall debut as Soprano One soloist in Mahler’s 8th Symphony with the Canterbury Chorale.
