Praised for her gentle and delicate tone (NCOC), Macedonian-Canadian soprano Angela Gjurichanin continues to establish herself as a versatile and expressive artist on both concert and operatic stages. In 2024, Angela made her role debut as the Sandman/Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel with Grand River Opera, and appeared as Adina (cover) in L’elisir d’amore with North York Concert Orchestra. Additional recent performances include Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and Cercatrice I (Suor Angelica) with Grand River Opera.
In concert, Angela has appeared as the soprano soloist in Bach’s St. John Passion with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (2024), Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli with the Stratford Concert Choir (2024), and Handel’s Messiah with both the Milton Choristers (2023) and Regina Symphony Orchestra (2022). Upcoming performances include a return as soprano soloist for Messiah with Choral Connection (2025).
Angela was named a finalist in the 2023 National Capital Opera Society Competition, won First Place in the 2022 Gordon Wallis Opera Competition, and was a District Winner in the 2021 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Western Canada). Other stage highlights include Adina (L’elisir d’amore) and Nella (Gianni Schicchi) with Western University Opera, Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief), Adele (Der Fledermaus), and Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) with the University of Saskatchewan.
She holds a Master of Music in Literature and Performance from Western University (2022), where she studied with Jackalyn Short, and a Bachelor of Music Honours in Voice Performance from the University of Saskatchewan (2020), where she trained with Dr. Garry Gable. Angela has furthered her studies at the Stratford Summer Music Vocal Academy, the Against the Grain Theatre’s National Opera Intensive, and the Institut Canadien d’Art Vocal.
