Anja Tuominen is a Finnish-American mezzo-soprano based in Baltimore Maryland. During the Summer 2025 season, she is an Emerging Artist at Opera in the Ozarks. While at OIO, she will be singing Mercedes in Carmen and Praskovia in The Merry Widow. She also will join their preseason outreach trio for a concert tour around Northwest Arkansas.
Recently, Anja has covered Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito with the Peabody Opera Theatre. While at Peabody, she has also performed as “Pâtre” in L’enfant et les Sortileges and covered “Symposium Participant” in The Classical Style with the Peabody Opera Theatre. sang “Palmatica” in Der Bettelstudent with the Peabody Opera Scenes Workshop and in a new works performance with the Peabody Opera Etudes program. Other performance credits include Turandot with OperaDelaware (chorus), Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra (alto section leader), and Die Fledermaus with Music On Site (chorus), The Tender Land (Mrs. Splinters), Orfeo ed Euridice (ensemble), Speed Dating Tonight (ensemble), and The Magic Flute (Third Spirit). She has performed at The Kennedy Center, Mostly Modern Festival, Atlantic Musical Festival, Chicago Summer Opera, and with the Russian Opera Workshop in Philadelphia.
Anja holds regional and state awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She also holds an honorable mention from the National YoungArts Foundation, which aims to provide winners a lifetime of creative, professional development, and funding opportunities.
Currently, Anja is pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Peabody Conservatory, where she studies under the tutelage of Margaret Baroody and Denyce Graves. She received her Bachelor of Music from New York University, where she studied with Dr. Paul Speiser.
