Soprano Anna Mans recently relocated to Florida after spending seven years in Kansas City. During her time in KC, she earned her graduate degrees at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), where she studied under soprano Maria Kanyova. While at UMKC, Anna performed a variety of operatic roles, including Taller in Proving Up (Missy Mazzoli), Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Clarina in La cambiale di matrimonio, Sally in Die Fledermaus, and Susanna (in scenes) from Le nozze di Figaro. Anna was also a chorister with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, performing in three of their seasons between 2020 and 2025.
Most recently, Anna made her role debut as Nedda in Pagliacci with Lawrence Opera Theatre. She will debut the title role in Suor Angelica with Midwest Opera Theatre in 2026.
In the summer of 2024, Anna joined Opera in the Ozarks as a Young Artist, where she performed Annina in La Traviata, Beauty in a one-act adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, and Le Princesse/Rossignol in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges. She also covered the role of Violetta in La Traviata, and had the opportunity to sing the role with orchestra in a dress rehearsal.
A passionate advocate for new music, Anna collaborated with UMKC’s composition department to premiere a series of commissioned mini-operas in May 2023. She originated the role of the Shopkeeper in Ben Baker’s It Ticks Down, and added "director" to her résumé after filming and editing Leyou Wang’s The Emperor’s New Clothes.
As a soloist, Anna performed Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra after winning the Chancellor’s Competition in 2020. The piece holds personal significance for her, evoking memories of her childhood in Northeast Florida. She reprised the work in the summer of 2024 with the Lenexa Community Orchestra.
Anna continues to pursue opportunities that blend her love for traditional repertoire with her passion for new music and storytelling. Now based in Florida, she looks forward to expanding her performance and directing work across the Southeast and beyond.
