Annalese Lohr is a first year masters student at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Her primary teachers have been Amy Porter, Alberto Almarza, and Sharon Sparrow.

Biography

Annalese Lohr

Annalese Lohr is a first year masters student at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music. She is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, earning a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance in 2023. Her primary teachers have been Amy Porter, Alberto Almarza, and Sharon Sparrow. She has also studied with Hannah Hammel, Jeffery Zook, Dilshad Posnock, Alexa Still, and Maria Castillo. She has performed in masterclasses with Amanda Blaikie, Michael Hasel, Christina Jennings, Nancy Stagnitta, Mark Sparks, and Judith Mendenhall. 

At the University of Michigan, Annalese has performed with the University Symphony Orchestra, University Philharmonia Orchestra, University Concert Band, Contemporary Directions Ensemble, and also played for the Orchestral Conducting Seminar. Within the ensembles, she has been a part of several United States and World Premier composition performances and has had the opportunity to work with many composers during her education. She also performed Serenade for Flute, Harp and Strings by Howard Hansen with the University Symphony Orchestra in 2020. 

She was awarded first prize in the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia’s Collegiate Artist competition and was invited to perform in the winners recital. She also received second prize in the San Diego Flute Guild’s Collegiate Artist Competition in 2022, and performed Asphyxia by Nicole Chamberlain in the virtual winners recital. She was a part of the Brevard Music Center Orchestral Institute in 2023, performing alongside Amy Porter and Dilshad Posnock as a member of the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. She participated in Orford Music Academy from 2020-2022, studying with Paula Robison, Robert Langevin, Michael Cox, Demarre McGill, and Ransom Wilson. She attended Sharon Sparrow’s The Unlimited Flutist Winter Recharge Retreat in 2020, and Amy Porter’s Anatomy of Sound workshop in 2019. She attended the Interlochen Arts Camp Flute Institute in 2017 and 2018, and was principal flute of the World Youth Wind Symphony in 2018. 

Annalese also teaches privately, and has a virtual studio. She has been teaching since 2022.
