Flutist Annalese Lohr is a dedicated performer, educator, and classical music advocate currently based in Denver, Colorado. Annalese has been a semi-finalist and finalist in orchestral auditions for flute and piccolo positions with the North Carolina Symphony, Flint Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony, and the Sarasota Orchestra. She is a sub for the Flint Symphony Orchestra as well as the New World Symphony. Annalese earned first prize in the Southeast Michigan Flute Association Ervin Monroe Young Artist Competition in 2024, and was invited to perform in a masterclass with Terri Sánchez. She performed at the Brevard Music Center Orchestral Institute in 2023 alongside Amy Porter and Dilshad Posnock. In 2022, she received first prize in the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia’s Collegiate Artist competition, as well as second prize in the San Diego Flute Guild’s Collegiate Artist Competition.
Annalese received her master's degree at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music, where she served as the graduate assistant to flute professor Alberto Almarza. In the position, she handled daily communication and logistics with the studio along with that of visiting artists and lecturers. At Carnegie Mellon, she frequently collaborated with harpists, singers, and string players in both chamber and orchestral settings. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance under the tutelage of Amy Porter. While at the University of Michigan, she performed Howard Hanson’s Serenade for Flute, Harp and Strings with the University Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her performance career, Annalese also teaches privately. She currently runs a virtual studio, creating lesson plans that enhance student musicianship and personal growth, and supports lifelong musicianship skills that go beyond standard performance and practice. She also has collaborated with Azure Family Concerts in Pittsburgh, where she designed and performed an interactive concert for families with autism at the Children’s Museum Pittsburgh.
Annalese is originally from the metro Detroit area, and can be found reading, sipping tea, and traveling in her spare time.
