I have sung with Bellas Artes Opera House in Mexico City
Antonio Azpiri began his musical journey as a violinist at the age of 11 before pursuing vocal studies at the Faculty of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he earned his bachelor’s degree in voice with honors. He has since established himself as a versatile bass-baritone, performing operatic roles with companies across Mexico and internationally, including Operafabriken (Sweden), West Bay Opera (Palo Alto, CA), and Opera Egypt at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria, Egypt).
His diverse repertoire includes Taddeo (L’italiana in Algeri), Count Rodolfo (La Sonnambula), Nardo (La Finta Giardiniera), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Don Fernando (Fidelio), Fra Melitone (La Forza del Destino), Figaro, Bartolo, and Antonio (Le Nozze di Figaro), Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Colline (La Bohème), Betto (Gianni Schicchi), and Sid (La Fanciulla del West).
In 2024, Azpiri was selected as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. He previously served as a Principal Vocal Artist with Heartland Sings, Inc. (2023), and was a member of the Bellas Artes Opera Studio (EOBA) in 2020. He is also a first-place winner of the 2016 Olivia Gorra Singing Competition.
Beyond performance, Azpiri is an experienced conductor. He led the Mexico City Gay Choir (CGCDMX) as Artistic Director for four years and made his orchestral conducting debut in 2022 with the Mexican premiere of Iain Bell’s opera Stonewall.
Currently, he is pursuing graduate studies in opera at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia, where he serves as an Opera Graduate Assistant and is a recipient of the Hoveland Fellowship Award.
