Ashley Fabian

Described as “a joy to watch and hear” (Daily Camera), soprano Ashley Fabian is quickly garnering recognition for her artistry in both comedic and dramatic roles. She has been consistently praised for her “silvery tone” and “smooth legato”, which bring elegance to her performances of the lyric coloratura repertoire. Upcoming performances include a return to Des Moines Metro Opera in their production of The Magic Flute, Cinderella in Into the Woods with Holy City Arts & Lyric Opera, Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro with Seattle Opera, and Ginevra in Ariodante with Opera NEO.  She will also compete as a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. In 2021, Ms. Fabian sang Johanna in Sweeney Todd and covered Prilepa in The Queen of Spades with Des Moines Metro Opera.  She won Audience Favorite and the Encouragement Award in the James Toland Vocal Competition (Tier I).  Ms. Fabian was also a two-time Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2020 and 2021.    In the 2019/2020 season, she joined Los Angeles Opera as the Sage/Counselor in their production of The Festival Play of Daniel conducted by Maestro James Conlon (cancelled due to COVID-19), and sang Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Indianapolis Opera.  Other companies with which she has sung include Pittsburgh Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Central City Opera, Virginia Arts Festival, Asheville Lyric Opera, Opera Charleston and Palmetto Opera.  Previous seasons have featured her in roles such as Gretel in Hansel und Gretel, Ilia in Idomeneo, Younger Alyce in Glory Denied, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Madame Silberklang in The Impresario, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne, The Princess in Transformations, and Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief.  Her excellent musicianship also enables her to sing contemporary music with ease and she has recorded the roles of Sister Sparrow in Bre’r Rabbit and the Tar Baby by Nkeiru Okoye and Carman Moore, and Venus in The Golden Ass by Randolph Peters. In concert Ms. Fabian has appeared as the Soprano soloist for Brahm’s Ein deutsches Requiem with the Erie Philharmonic and has also been a soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Messiah, Faure’s Requiem, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and a fully staged production of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. Ms. Fabian has been the recipient of awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, the Orpheus Vocal Competition, Central City Opera, and the Grand Concours Franco-American Competition.  In addition, she was a finalist in the Tenor Viñas Competition, Mildred Miller Competition, Cooper-Bing Competition, and Piccola Opera Competition.  She holds a M.M. from The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a B.A. and Artist Diploma from The College of Charleston.
