Biography

Aubrey Maren Cole

Aubrey Maren Cole, an upcoming and exciting singing actress from Arizona, is celebrated for her reliability, tenacity, and fierce dedication to her craft. Since beginning her opera career four years ago, Aubrey has made a name for herself. Her first roles were La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, stepping in on just four weeks’ notice when the original singers fell ill. Fully prepared and staged, she delivered fearless performances that revealed her passion and resilience, leading to more prominent roles.  Aubrey sang the role of Susanna twice more in Vicenza, Italy, with The International Lyric Academy and with Opera Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her repertoire also includes roles such as Mozart in The Classical Style, Genovieffa and Suor Infermiera in Suor Angelica, Micäela in La Tragédie de Carmen, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Servilia in La clemenza di Tito, and most recently, La Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro with Chautauqua Opera Conservatory.

In addition to her stage credits, Aubrey has achieved success in competitions, winning first place in the graduate division of The Peabody Art Song Competition, Peabody's Art Song Competition, and the Southern Arizona Opera Guild's Quest for the Best. She also placed second in the Amelia Rieman Opera Competition in 2023.

Aubrey was active in musical theatre from middle school through her early 20s and began diving back into the art in recent years with Chautauqua Opera Company, performing the partial roles of Mother in Ragtime and Margaret in The Light in the Piazza. She has performed leading roles such as The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Casey in First Date, The Lady of the Lake in Monty Python’s Spamalot, Hope Cladwell in Urinetown, and Princess Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress. Her talents in musical theatre have earned her three National Youth Arts Awards, including Best Supporting Actress and twice for Best Leading Actress. She continues her study of Musical Theatre as she is in a weekly Musical Theatre seminar and coaches many songs from the Great American Songbook, twice a month.

Recently, Aubrey graduated with her master’s degree in vocal performance, specializing in vocal pedagogy, at The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied under the tutelage of Margaret Baroody and Denyce Graves-Montgomery.  She was involved in multiple operatic productions, was a teaching assistant for piano accompaniment undergraduates, and was a part of the prestigious Denyce Graves Foundation’s Shared Voices program where Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) and prestigious conservatories choose students to collaborate to promote diversity and equality in the opera field.

Currently, she is an elementary school music teacher a few days a week in Baltimore, MD. She is also singing in the ensemble as well as playing the role of Donna Elvira's Maid in Annapolis Opera’s production of Don Giovanni.
